Jeffery L. Lewis, marine surveyor and retired United States Coast Guard Marine Inspector, is Principle Consultant / Surveyor for S & L Maritime Consulting LLC. Jeff is responsible for conducting inspections of inland and ocean-going vessels and equipment for financing, insurance, pre-purchase, risk management, loss control and estate management purposes for the clients of S & L Maritime Consulting, LLC  primarily in the Gulf Coast Region and worldwide as needed.

 

     With more than 22 years experience working with marine assets, most of which was gained in the United States Coast Guard. As a U.S.C.G Marine Inspector, he became knowledgeable in all shipboard systems. In addition, he gained a strong background in vessel equipment plan and specifications reviews to determine compliance with U.S. laws, regulations, international conventions and other applicable standards including extensive vessel and security inspections. Jeff can also assist with customer maritime safety, environmental pollution prevention and cleanup, and vessel and facility regulatory compliance as a result of his experience.

 

     While stationed at the U.S.C.G Marine Safety Office in Mobile, Alabama, he oversaw new construction, structural engineering, lifesaving, design, stability and repair of certificated vessels. He led and trained new marine inspectors in all aspects of marine inspections including domestic and international security. Prior to duty in Mobile, he was stationed in Houma, Louisiana, where he was responsible for inspections of one of the largest fleets of U.S. flagged vessels in the nation. During that time, he was the Federal on Scene Investigator for many high profile incidents. Early in his USCG career, Lewis managed and supervised all activities concerning hazardous waste and material, respiratory protection, pollution prevention and safety for over 500 personnel in Mobile.
