Response Plans
The Oil Pollution Act of 1990 is legislation intended to prevent and respond to oil spills from vessel and facilities. It requires tank vessels that carry more than 150 barrels of oil, and those other vessels over 400 gross tons to have a plan to respond to an oil spill that may involve those vessels. All Maritime Related Facilities that transfer a petroleum product over the water are also required to have a response plan. Maritime Security
The Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002 requires all Coast Guard regulated shoreside facilities, and certain maritime vessels to conduct an assessment of their facility or vessel and prepare a written plan that can be used to mitigate any security threat.
